HARMONY WEEK 2024Harmony Week is a wonderful opportunity to learn about all the incredible cultures and traditions of our families and educators at Keiki. This year Harmony Week runs from 18-24 March and we’ve been celebrating our diverse backgrounds with lots of activities including:
🧡 Wearing orange to show our support for diversity. Orange represents social communication and meaningful conversations as well as mutual respect;
🧡 Celebrating the theme “everyone belongs” by talking about where we come from, searching for our photos in rice sensory activities and creating a collaborative artwork inspired by the countries we come from;
🧡 Setting up small world play showing what is significant in Educators’ home countries including safari in South Africa, snow season in England and green sensory experience for Ireland;
🧡 Bringing in books and objects from home to read with our friends and learn about one another’s cultures;
🧡 Creating traditional objects such as Korowai cloak from Māori culture from recycled materials and paper lanterns to celebrate the beginning of Ramadan;
🧡 Welcoming family members into the service to share their language, traditions and stories with the children;
🧡 Listening to music and learning cultural dance such as British Maypole dancing;
🧡 Sharing food from other cultures including making scones and fettuccine with the children.Celebrating Harmony Week helps to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion for all, creating learning spaces where everyone feels respected and heard.
