KEIKI EDGEWATER: Joining the sea of hearts movement 💛🌊
Last week, our Keiki Edgewater children took part in the Sea of Hearts movement, a beautiful way to honour Reconciliation Week and start age-appropriate conversations around respect, culture, and connection.
With the support of their educators, the children explored the meaning of reconciliation through books, conversations, and creativity. Each child then created their own unique heart - decorated with care, colour, and lots of love. As they added their hearts to our wall in the reception area, they formed a vibrant Sea of Hearts - a visual message of respect and unity from our Keiki community.

KEIKI TRINITY: High kicks and high fives 🥋
As part of our community engagement and physical wellbeing program, our Kindy Trinity children visited their neighbours at @jmamartialarts_alkimos! Our adventure began with a safe and mindful walk to the venue, where we practised important road safety skills: stopping, looking, and listening before crossing. The children showed great awareness and responsibility - a fantastic display of growing independence.
When we arrived at JMA, the real fun began! The children took part in an energetic martial arts session, where they explored balance, coordination, focus, and self-control. Through each movement, they also learned about respect, active listening, and using their bodies with strength and purpose. 💪
It was incredible to see their confidence grow as they stepped outside their comfort zones and embraced something new. Excursions like these are such an important part of our curriculum - supporting not just physical development, but also life skills, resilience, and meaningful connections to the wider community.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at JMA Martial Arts for welcoming us so warmly. We had an absolute blast and can’t wait to visit again! 🙌

💛 As part of our Reconciliation Week activities, our amazing Keiki Mindarie Primary children put their hearts into supporting the Wear It Yellow campaign! After a big brainstorming session on how they could get involved, they decided to host one of their famous market stalls to raise funds for Children`s Ground, an organisation that supports First Nations communities.
They carefully considered their strengths - what they’re great at making - and what others might love, showing an impressive mix of creativity and budding business smarts. They got straight to work, creating everything from delicious homemade lemonade and beautifully crafted jewellery to tasty decorated biccies and eye-catching yellow flower crafts to brighten up their stall. 🌻
After creating their goodies to sell, they also took charge of the stalls - accepting donations, serving customers, and proudly sharing the purpose behind their efforts. Their passion and thoughtfulness were truly inspiring.
Together, they raised over $300 for Children`s Ground - what an achievement! We’re incredibly proud of our Mindarie Primary children for getting involved in such a meaningful initiative and proving that even the smallest actions can help shape a brighter future. 💕

Water play is so much more than just splashing around - it’s a powerful tool for early learning! 💧
As children pour, fill, and measure, they build fine motor coordination, sensory awareness, and problem-solving abilities, while exploring basic math concepts like volume, measurement, and cause-and-effect. These activities also lay the foundation for school-readiness skills like pencil grip and sustained focus at mat times.
Water play supports a child’s growth in countless ways, making it a firm favourite at Keiki. 💙

KEIKI EDGEWATER – Once upon a time... 📚🐱
On Wednesday, children across our Keiki services took part in National Simultaneous Storytime, joining thousands of children from all over Australia to read The Truck Cat. They listened intently as the story unfolded, learning all about the adventures of Tinka (the truck cat) and his life on the road.
To dive deeper into the story, the children at Keiki Edgewater took part in creative activities - crafting their own bright butterflies like the ones Tinka chased, exploring truck themed sensory trays, and using character props to bring the tale to life through touch and play.
National Simultaneous Storytime is a fantastic initiative to nurture a love of reading and build a sense of community, connecting children all across the country through the shared joy of a good book. 💕🚚

KEIKI TRINITY – Park trips with a purpose🚦🌳
As part of Road Safety Week, our Keiki Trinity toddlers took their learning out into the real world with an exciting excursion to the local park! While in their big prams, they practiced important road safety skills like stopping, looking and listening before crossing the road and chatting with the educators about the meaning of different road signs.
Once at the park, they gathered to talk about all the ways we can keep safe around the roads before heading off to explore the equipment. It’s always great to see the children in a new environment, excitedly tackling the different structures to climb, swing, balance and play. On the way back to Keiki, they reinforced what they’d learned by stopping, looking, and listening at every crossing — true road safety superstars! ⭐

KEIKI MINDARIE KEYS: Culture, stories and movement in the garden🌿
Last week, the Kindy children at Mindarie Keys had the opportunity to take part in an incursion held by Boorloo Aboriginal Cultural Experiences. Set in our beautiful outdoor garden, the morning was filled with engaging stories, music and movement that furthered the children’s understanding of Aboriginal cultures.
With the help of puppets representing native Australian animals, our presenter, Olman, shared traditional stories that explained how these animals came to have their unique features. The children were fascinated by tales of the ‘Yonga’ (kangaroo) and ‘Waitj’ (emu). The experience continued with a musical movement session, as Olman played the didgeridoo and guided the children through animal-inspired dances, from hopping like kangaroos to strutting like emus. 🦘
To end the experience, the children were given a chance to try on some traditional clothing, crafted from native animal furs. They loved feeling the different textures of the animal fur and how warm it felt wrapped around them. This incursion was a fantastic learning opportunity for our kindy children in the lead up to Reconciliation Week at the end of the month.

KEIKI HAMERSLEY: Bringing literacy to life 📕✨
At Keiki, we love finding new ways to encourage children to actively engage with the stories they read. When children are given the opportunity to really dive into books through imaginative play, their comprehension, vocabulary, and love of language flourish.
In our Hamersley toddler room, educators have been transforming story time into an immersive, multi-sensory experience. Using props, small world setups, and hands-on activities, they have been bringing the book of the day to life - inviting children to explore stories in a way that feels exciting, meaningful, and fun.
These experiences help children make connections between words, actions, and ideas, laying the foundation for strong communication skills. By making literacy interactive and playful, we’re helping to nurture confident little communicators who are curious, expressive, and ready to explore the world through words. 💕
